The majority of Greene County residents who voted in the June 7 primary are ready for a change in the county board of supervisors. Peter Bardole claimed the position on the November ballot over four-term incumbent Guy Richardson for the District 5 seat. Barole got 567 votes (53.09 percent) while Richardson got 501 (46.91 percent).*
The margin was wider in the sheriff’s race, with chief deputy Jack Williams getting 752 votes (68.74 percent) and deputy Kirk Hammer getting 339 votes (30.99 percent).
A total of 1,364 voters went to the polls. There were 1,122 ballots cast in the Republican primary and 242 in the Democratic primary.
Republican incumbent Mick Burkett was not challenged for the District 1 supervisor seat; he received 817 votes. Republican incumbent John Muir was not challenged for the District 4 supervisor seat; he received 867 votes.
Incumbent auditor Jane Heun, a Republican, was not challenged in the primary. She received 885 votes.
Todd Madson is the only Democratic candidate at this time. He will run against Muir in November. At this time, there are no Democratic challengers to Bardole, Burkett, Williams, or Heun.
In statewide races, Democrats selected Patty Judge as their candidate for U.S. Senator. Judge received 137 votes (58.3 percent), followed by Robert M. Hogg with 70 (29.79 percent), Thomas L. Fiegen with 18 (17.66 percent), and Bob Krause with 10 (4.26 percent). Fiegen was the only candidate to campaign in Greene County.
Republican Sen Chuck Grassley was unopposed in the primary and received 845 votes.
In the Fourth Congressional district, incumbent Republican Steve King received 602 votes (59.37 percent) while challenger Rick Bertrand received 409 votes (40.34 percent). Democrat Kim Weaver was unopposed in the primary and got 188 votes.
In the Iowa House district 47, Democrat Deb Duncan received 132 votes (68.75 percent) to win a place on the Nov. 8 ballot. George Ensley received 60 votes (31.25 percent). Incumbent Rep Chip Baltimore, a Republican, was not challenged and received 817 votes.
There was no contest for the Iowa Senate district 24. Incumbent Republican Jerry Behn received 803 votes and Democrat Keith Puntenney received 168 votes.
Vote counts are unofficial until the board of supervisors canvasses the vote next Monday.
